Habs Platinum Pudding Competition

Could you create a Platinum Pudding and become the Master’s Chef?

For pupils in Years 4-8 at Habs' schools and parish youth groups

Would you like to see your pudding creation served up at Haberdashers' Hall for the Platinum Jubilee? The Haberdashers’ Company, in conjunction with our in-house catering partner, Graysons, is inviting you to invent the Habs’ Jubilee Pudding for The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in 2022.

The winning pudding will be an important part of the celebrations marking Her Majesty’s 70 years as Queen. And the creators of the winning puddings will be invited to Haberdashers’ Hall in London for a workshop to cook with our chef and prepare a pudding for the Master Haberdasher. Get cooking, and your creation could be a joyful and delicious part of the first ever Platinum Jubilee.

The Haberdashers' Company

The Haberdashers’ Company is one of the Great Twelve Livery Companies and has a long history associated with the City of London and supporting schools – the first one was founded five centuries ago! Today education is of prime importance to the Haberdashers and the company supports eighteen schools. Every year the Company elects a leader called the Master Haberdasher. This year he - the Rev'd James Power- would like to invite you to prepare a special Habs Platinum Pudding to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee and become The Master’s Chef.

What are the judging criteria?

The recipe and instructions are clear and accurate

We ask that the recipe fields be completed to the best of your ability. This means filling out the recipe form in English and listing the ingredients in metric measurements. Your recipe should be sweet and needs to be served cold. In addition, our judges are looking for a winning pudding that meets the following criteria:

It tastes just right

While our judges won’t be able to taste your pudding unless it makes it to the cooking workshop in Haberdashers' Hall, you do need to ensure the ingredients list is 100% accurate - even a degree of imprecision will affect the flavour. And of course, it should taste, well, delicious.

Perfect for a banquet

Your pudding needs to be simple enough to serve to hundreds of people at a banquet. Try to use ingredients and kitchen equipment that most people have at home, rather than fancy gadgets and rare flowers only grown in your back garden.

A memorable story

A good pudding is made with passion and pride, so we’d love to hear the story behind your entry. Perhaps the recipe was inspired by Her Majesty The Queen’s life, has been handed down through the generations of your family, or recalls one of your own special memories.

Fit for the Master Haberdasher and his guests

The proof of the pudding may be in the eating, but this one will be served to the Master Haberdasher, so it needs to look the part. A few final decorative flourishes always help – and make sure your photograph or drawing is nice and clear too for our judges to see your masterpiece in all its glory.
