On 29 February school leaders came together at Haberdashers’ Hall from across the family of schools. The event was part of Haberdashers’ Working Together programme which brings together school leaders and governors to share ideas and best practice, working together towards the Haberdashers’ wider aspiration to empower young people from every background to fulfil their potential.Throughout the day delegates collaborated to consider how partnership working with the company, its charities and other organisations can benefit their schools, staff and students – as well as reflecting on how digital initiative and AI can enhance working practices across the schools. There was a particular focus on the role supporters in the community can play to improve the future life chances of students through careers in the curriculum initiatives and mentoring. This included hearing from Monmouth about the ‘Aspire’ pilot which has connected Sixth Form pupils with mentors from their alumni body. The ambition is to extend this to Sixth Formers at other Haberdashers’ schools, providing mentoring from their alumni, Haberdashers and other supporters. In afternoon sessions leaders heard from Carl Gombrich (Dean of London Interdisciplinary School) and Lord Dr Michael Hastings (Haberdasher and Chair of SOAS). Through discussions on how interdisciplinarity can help us all be better leaders and taking risks in leadership, leaders were challenged to reflect on their own mindsets and practices as well as learning from each other and the extensive experience of each speaker. Leaders fed back positively about the day, with an average rating of 4/5 with all sessions rated as ‘Good’ or ‘Outstanding’ on average. When asked how they would describe the day, the most common response was ‘thought-provoking’ and comments on the best part of the day included:
