Part of the joy of working with the Charities Committee is receiving emails from scholars who have benefited from Haberdashers’ support. At the start of this new academic year we celebrate with those students who have received an award from the Company. |

AkzoNobel Science Scholar (graduate, Bath, Biology) says ‘I am writing to share that I have graduated with a first-class honours BSc in Biology (with professional placement) and I have also been awarded the Royal Society of Biology Top Student award for the highest mark across all bioscience courses at the University. I just wanted to say thank you for the support of the scholarship over the last four years, it has enabled me to complement my learning with extra resources, training and experiences which undoubtedly enhanced my university experience’. AkzoNobel Science Scholar (final year, Cambridge, Engineering) says ‘I’d once again like to reiterate my gratitude for the scholarship, and the support it has given me throughout my time at Cambridge so far. The extra freedom allowed me to excel in my exams last year, achieving a high first, and enable lots of other extracurricular activities. I’ll keep my fingers crossed that we shall all be able to meet at the excellent Haberdashers' Hall in 2022, where I’m sure we’ll all have lots to catch up on’. And finally, one of the 2007 Arkwright engineering scholars, Eva Shah (Haberdashers’ Aske’s School for Girls), was announced as one of the Top 50 Women in Engineering 2021. As Senior Engineer on the HS2 Enabling Works contract Era implemented cutting-edge innovation – the first of its kind on HS2 – which revolutionised the operational works. She reduced each building’s demolition programme by a third and contributed towards an overall carbon saving of 360 tonnes. Era also co-founded the Female Advocates in Infrastructure and Rail (FAIR) network. Congratulations, Era! The Company awards over 50 scholarships each year.
