Students from Haberdashers' Borough Academy, the newest school in the Haberdashers' family, performed a fantastic adaptation of The Lion King over three nights at the end of October. |
"It was amazing! What an incredibly talented group of students and staff who were able to create such a beautiful performance. I was close to tears at several points - but in a good way!" |

Postponed from July because of Covid cases, the show’s cast, crew and musicians were raring to go this autumn. It was wonderful to see students in Years 8 and 9 finally able to showcase their hard work and talent to families and friends. A dramatic opening performance of ‘The Circle of Life’ set an emotive and exhilarating tone for the performance. Year 7 Borough students were joined by Year 6 pupils from nearby Charles Dickens Primary School to form a powerful choir, supported by an extraordinary band of students and staff playing live each night. The performance featured an exciting mix of dramatic scenes, uplifting harmonies and beautiful solos, and was laced with cheeky humour, which really reflected the spirit and energy the Borough students brought to this show. Telling a familiar story, the cast and crew brought a professional touch to the proceedings, adding their own mark to this contemporary adaption. Directed by Learning Support Assistant at Borough, Matilda Wilde, the drama created by the cast was impressive. From favourite characters like Mufasa, Simba, Nala, Pumbaa and Timon to darker characters like Scar and the hyenas, everyone put in heartfelt performances and scenes were wonderfully choreographed by Brianna Ogunbawo from Vibe Arts. No detail was forgotten from excellent set design, lighting and sound, costumes, hair and make-up to props. Timing was outstanding for such a young cast, choir and crew with smooth scene changes, all contributing to a hugely entertaining show. Well done to everyone involved – we are incredibly proud of all the talented actors, singers, musicians, and backstage crew members who brought it all together to create such a moving showcase of talent at Borough Academy. It was a wonderful way to see out the first term of the year. |
