Ones to Watch

Cameron Chastanet-Hird

Haberdashers' Knights Academy

Cameron studied for a BSc Sociology and Social Policy at Birmingham University, where she was a Student Ambassador. “I have been fortunate to have had a number of fantastic opportunities that have had a huge impact in my journey so far,” she says. “A particular highlight was taking part in the ParliaMentors Leadership Programme, mentored by Preet Gill MP. My mentors have always been so important to me, and I was pleased to become an Associate Mentor myself for the National Citizen Service. I think it’s important to give back wherever possible, and during the pandemic I supported a local prison to stock its library.”

Cameron was recognized by Future Leaders magazine as one of the UK’s top 150 outstanding African and African-Caribbean students. “Through the Haberdashers’ Company, I was lucky to benefit from the Thomas Arno Fund, which enabled me to complete an internship with the Education Ministry of St Lucia in 2019,” she says. She has recently taken on a graduate role with TeachFirst.
