In a whirlwind day of couture, creativity and career inspiration, Haberdashers’ Monmouth, Haberdashers’ Elstree Boys, Haberdashers’ Elstree Girls and Haberdashers’ Borough Academy students experienced the fashion industry like never before at the prestigious Jimmy Choo Academy (JCA) Fashion Show held at Haberdashers’ Hall back in June.

A group of talented Year 10 students studying art, design or textiles and keen to learn more about what a career in the fashion industry might look like, had the incredible opportunity to attend a Haberdashers’ Advantage Futures for a day immersed in the world of creative style.

The day began with a dynamic workshop, “Showtime – From Sketch to Catwalk”, delivered by JCA tutors, where twenty-three students took part in an exciting interactive masterclass. With sketchpads, scissors and creativity in hand, they explored the journey from textile inspiration to finished fashion design. Guided by industry experts, the students learned to express their ideas with professional flair – developing confidence and a deeper understanding of design thinking.

What followed was a rare and thrilling look behind the velvet curtain. Students witnessed the meticulous backstage preparation of over 80 models, as makeup artists, stylists and designers worked in harmony to bring collections to life. They observed a live runway rehearsal, gaining tips directly from the JCA team on posture, poise and presence. For these young fashion enthusiasts, it was an immersive masterclass in professionalism and performance.
The highlight of the day was attending the JCA Fashion Show, a stunning event showcasing collections designed and presented by JCA’s own students. It was a fantastic chance for all students to see emerging talent and experience the excitement of a professional runway show.

Inspiring Encounters: Meeting Fashion Icon Karen Millen.

The day culminated with a chance to mingle with guests at the exclusive pre-show reception—rubbing shoulders with fashion icon Karen Millen OBE, who graciously stood in for Professor Jimmy Choo, unwell on the day. Millen, a long-time supporter of emerging talent, was full of encouragement for the students and praised the Academy’s commitment to mentoring future leaders in fashion.

A huge thank you to the JCA team for welcoming our students and giving them an unforgettable experience. The day offered a unique look into the fashion industry and has undoubtedly inspired some of our future designers.
