On 20 November, Haberdashers’ Hall came alive with colour, creativity, and collaboration as students from across the Haberdashers family of schools gathered for the Haberdashers Character: Art Day.
This event is part of the wider Haberdashers’ Character programme, designed to nurture confidence, broaden horizons, consider learning beyond the classroom and develop essential life skills in every pupil. The Art Day exemplified this vision by offering opportunities for self-expression, collaboration, and skill-building. Students not only created art but also engaged with professionals from the art world, gaining insights into creative careers and the role of art in shaping society. The event began with an inspiring talk from Paula Ogun Hector, who shared her work on the Tapestry of Black Britons project. This session explored how art could foster a more inclusive understanding of British history. Paula is a former student of Haberdashers’ Hatcham College, and the Haberdashers’ Foundation was an early supporter of the project.
“[The day] was able to highlight different aspects within art that I had not thought of before. Overall, the experience was great to participate in and was led by wonderful people. Thank you.” – Crayford Academy student
Students then participated in a Career in Art Q&A, featuring company members, scholars, and alumni who had forged successful paths in the arts. This discussion provided practical advice and personal stories, helping students envision their own futures in creative industries. Thank you to members of the Company Ben Twiston-Davies and Katie Davies who joined the panel, alongside Haberdasher Scholar Kemi Ajose, former student Paula Ogun Hector and supporter of her project Elizabeth Lynch.

Grand Opening and Celebration

“I felt proud to see my work on display at Haberdashers’ Hall” – Haberdashers’ Castle House student
More than an art event, the day was a celebration of individuality, heritage, and community. It reflected the commitment of Haberdasher schools to fostering well-rounded individuals who are confident, creative, and ready to make their mark on the world.
