Finding Rhythms: Improving lives through music

Thanks to the generous support of the Haberdashers’ Benevolent Foundation, Finding Rhythms Studio has continued to provide a consistent, creative and trauma-informed space where young people affected by the criminal justice system can rebuild confidence, develop new skills and create positive futures.

Over the past year, we supported 59 young people through our Peckham studio, including participants from Southwark and Lewisham. As demand has grown, we have expanded delivery from two to four days each week, allowing more young people to access the support they need.

Music offers something unique. It creates a safe space for self-expression, reflection and connection, often engaging young people who have struggled to connect with more traditional services. The impact is clear:

  • · 100% of participants told us the programme improved their wellbeing;
  • · 83% said it strengthened their skills;
  • · 75% reported better relationships; and
  • · Every participant said they would recommend Finding Rhythms Studio to a friend.
One participant, Toni, shared:

“Finding Rhythms Studio gave me a way to process difficult experiences and develop a more positive relationship with myself.”

This year also marked exciting developments beyond the studio. We launched an alumni programme, offering live events, monthly insight sessions and ongoing opportunities for participants to stay connected, continue creating and shape the future of Finding Rhythms. We also strengthened our team with a new Programme Coordinator and invested in our facilitators through regular reflective practice sessions with a Clinical Psychologist.

The stories behind these numbers are what matter most. Participants like Yasmine, who rediscovered her voice after prison through songwriting, and Jack, who transformed his confidence, gained a qualification and is now training for a new career, demonstrate the power of creativity, trusted relationships and long-term support.

We are incredibly grateful to Haberdashers’ Benevolent Foundation, for helping make this work possible.

Together, we are creating opportunities for young people to move beyond their past and build brighter futures.
