Haberdashers’ Monmouth student, Emily, received Thomas Arno funds in January 2025 to attend a short Interior Design Portfolio course for 15 – 17-year-olds at Nottingham Trent University.
Emily tells us in her own words how much the grant funding meant to her in considering a future career in Interior Design.
“The experience was truly invaluable. Over the week, I not only developed a portfolio that will strengthen my applications to university, but I also gained a much clearer sense of direction in my design interests thanks to the expert guidance of one of the university’s professors. Their advice helped me reflect on the different pathways within design and consider which areas I feel most passionate about pursuing.
Staying in the student halls gave me a real insight into the independence and daily rhythm of university life, which I found both exciting and motivating. This glimpse into the student experience has made me even more determined to continue my studies in this field.
I am deeply grateful for the skills, knowledge, and confidence this course has given me. It has not only prepared me practically but also inspired me to approach my next steps with enthusiasm and clarity.
Thank you again for providing this grant, it abled me to partake in a truly valuable opportunity that will aid my future career decisions post Haberdashers sixth form.”
