Style and substance at the Habs Fashion Round Table

Twenty young people from the fashion sector came together yesterday for the second Haberdashers’ Fashion and Textiles Round Table.

The aim of the event is to provide networking opportunities for scholars with members who work in the sector, and to provide inspiring and thought-provoking content on how to progress in the industry.

We are extremely grateful to Nosa from Nosakhari and Alison from Fashion Angel for taking the time to share their expertise and experience with the scholars.

Nosa spoke about the importance of ‘celebrating your difference’ – a vision at the heart of his leather accessories brand. He also inspired the young people by explaining how his is a ‘people first’ business, where there is room to make mistakes and plenty of opportunity for discussion and even disagreement. He stated that continuing to find joy in your work is key.

Alison talked about the vital role of business strategy. A roadmap, purpose, vision and goals are key foundations that lay the path for growth. She gave the scholars specific tools to help their business become sustainable.

With scholars in the room from London College of Fashion, Royal College of Art, Cockpit and Inkberrow Design Centre further discussions revolved around the importance of accessing mentors, the disparity in the sector between London and other cities, and the culture of working in the industry.

Thanks to Haberdasher member Faith Johnson for hosting the day.
