Princess of Wales’s Royal Regiment

About:

The Princess of Wales’s Royal Regiment (PWRR) comprises three infantry battalions.  1 PWRR is a Regular Light Role Battalion and is currently based in Dhekelia, Cyprus.  3 PWRR and 4 PWRR are Light Role Battalions in the Army Reserve and are based in Canterbury and Redhill respectively, with rifle companies based in a variety of locations across Kent, Hampshire, Sussex, Surrey and Middlesex.  2nd Battalion, The Ranger Regiment (2 RANGER) is a part of the wider PWRR family.

The affiliation between the Company and PWRR originates from 1992 when the Royal Hampshire Regiment (R HAMPS), one of the PWRR’s antecedent regiments, made the link.  The Company now holds the Victoria Cross which was awarded to Captain Richard Wakeford R HAMPS after the Battle of Monte Cassino in May 1944.

Today, the best performing young officer in 1 PWRR each year is appointed as the Albuhera subaltern and is given a prize which is paid for from the annual grant from the Haberdashers’ Company.
